Mo Laycock

Artists Statement.
I enjoy responding to the countryside around me in Bradfield, Worrall and the Peak District. I also take photographs and do sketches of places we visit for future work. Recently these have included the rugged coastlines and hills of Ireland, Herefordshire and Cornwall. I work mostly in acrylics, but sometimes have the need and patience to work with oils. I enjoy adding texture to pictures and experimenting with mixed media. I also work using textiles, mainly on the sewing machine and sometimes adding detail with hand embroidery.
I enjoy experimenting and taking some risks with my work, hoping it will be successful and take me on a different path. Sometimes this is not the case, but as a life long learner I keep on trying. I always need to respond emotionally to a scene and will mull it over whilst doing some sketching responses to the initial stimulus. I then reach a point where I think I know where I’m going with the picture. I am influenced by the Impressionists: particularly Paul Cezanne, hut also David Hockney and Howard Hodgkin.
